Let’s Work Together

This blog is about I and my thoughts, views and feelings. The expressions in the blog represent no others and it is personal to me.   

I am Koh Tong Seng, a volunteer serving as the Chairman of Changi Simei Citizens’ Consultative Committee (CCC). It is passion and belief that I can make the difference to the community that prompt me to accept the challenge to take up community works to help Ms Jessica Tan, our Member of Parliament for East Coast GRC.

Community works is largely a thankless job with many expecting us to listen to them and act immediately.  Nonetheless, as a volunteer, I don’t have a free hand to do whatever I want to do. There are technical and financial constraints.  There are policies which have been legislated. There are opportunity costs. There are bureaucracies. There are safety considerations……. the lists continue. 

Therefore,  as a volunteer, I do not dictate polices but I try to work within  policies and guidelines. As a volunteer, I can justify and re-justify, seek clarifications and rationalisation of policies and think out of the box.  I can articulate our community needs from our perspective and to work hand in hand with the relevant agencies. Well, 100% patience is needed for the due process.  

I also hope that residents will understand that if suggestions and proposals are not implemented do not mean that no one is listening but there is also a need to understand the constraints and challenges in grassroots works.   

The vision for Changi Simei is : An Inclusive and Vibrant Changi Simei”. I am a resident in Changi Simei and let’s work together with Ms Jessica Tan and her team of grassroots leaders to create an inclusive and vibrant Changi Simei.
